Holiday goers who had thought they would make the best of the long weekend by celebrating Christmas at a vacation spot faced major disappointment as several popular destinations reported massive traffic congestions caused by the influx of tourists.

Social media is currently flooded with visuals of severe traffic snarls in areas such as Mysuru, Bengaluru to even Manali.

Manali appears to be one of the worst affected areas with reports of cars breaking down, and slow-moving serpentine queues leading to extremely disgruntled holiday goers.

Meanwhile, on Christmas Eve in Bengaluru, traffic chaos left Bellari Road (Airport Road) in North Bengaluru choked, with crowds thronging Phoenix Mall of Asia, near Yelahanka. Motorists were stuck for nearly two hours, including many who are airport-bound. The ensuing traffic prompted the local traffic police to issue an advisory at 6 pm, cautioning commuters about the congestion.

The chaos also resulted in traffic-related memes on social media. Most featured the two cities that have been facing the brunt of the holiday traffic: Bengaluru and Manali.
