Indian-origin woman gets to vote for the first time after living in US for 20 years: 'Grateful'

An Indian-origin woman living in the US has shared that she is grateful for being able to vote after living in the country for 20 years. Dini M took to LinkedIn to share the life update.

"First timer alert! After 20 years in the US, I finally earned the right to cast my vote!... With all its problems, this is best country on earth!" she wrote, adding that she was grateful for the "privilege and responsibility".

Dini further said that the objective of the post wasn't to share her political views but to encourage people to vote. "This post isn’t about my political views," she wrote. "It's just your reminder on Election Day to get out there and vote remember there are many folks out that can’t participate."

The San Francisco-based entrepreneur also recollected a lesson she had learned about airing her political views in public. "I remember asking my first professor in the US 'who are you voting for?' during office hours. Clearly didn’t know any better," Dini wrote. " He was kind enough to give me a lesson on general American etiquette: 'Don’t ever talk about politics, religion or money unless you are close to the person.' (In my defense, these topics weren’t sensitive when I was growing up in India). I haven’t talked about these topics publicly since. And this post isn’t about my political views."
