Deepak Abbot, co-founder of Indiagold, took to X to share a rather interesting account from his US visa interview. What so happened that Abbot was wearing a smart ring that he had forgotten about and went to the consulate for his visa interview. However, he was stopped by the authorities and asked to remove the ring. What he did later has left social media users chuckling.
Abbot was wearing his Ultrahuman ring when the incident happened. He claimed that the authorities refused to let him in because he was wearing an electronic device. "I had my US visa appointment yesterday at the consulate. I didn't carry my phone and bag as it isn't allowed inside. I forgot that I was wearing @UltrahumanHQ ring and they refused to let me in. I came out and realized there is no one I could hand that over. Confused what to do next," he wrote.
With no one to give the ring to, Abbot did what his grandfather did with his gold while leaving Pakistan. "I went little further, dug a hole, kept my ring inside and kept a stone on top of it. Only difference - I went back and took it back. Lesson: Do not carry any electronics to US visa interview," he wrote further.
Since being shared online, the post has amassed close to 4 lakh views and hundreds of amusing reactions from social media users.
"Quite a similar method I used for my phone during my entrance exam. Glad I'm not alone," one user wrote. Another user commented, "Desi jugaad>Videshi guidelines."
"Interesting. They allowed mine last year and I demonstrated the ring electronics to the Visa interview office. Jokes aside, happy to help in any way," a third user remarked.
Some people also questioned about locker facilities in consulates to store valuable items since they are available in Mumbai and Chennai. "How come they don't have any facility to store ? I doubt people would be just leaving their phones outside randomly," one user questioned.
"Not sure which consulate you went to, but there are locker facilities available at every US consulate," another user chimed in.
However, a section of X users claimed that the US Consulate in Delhi used to have locker facilities but don't anymore.
"Even I had faced similar situation in Delhi. There was no place to keep my mobile and smartwatch. The locker facility is removed. An auto guy charged me Rs 100 for 200 meters and took me to a shady place where a guy charged me Rs 100/gadget," a user added.
Another person wrote, "All of you claiming Delhi has a locker, they used to, they don’t anymore. Either trust rickshaw guys to charge you 100 + another 100 for trusting a guy who sits near a temple to store your things or simply don’t carry."
