A Hyderabad-based software professional has struck a chord online with a viral post celebrating the people of the city and the inclusive spirit that, he said, sets it apart from India’s other tech hubs.
Siddhant Gupta, an alumnus of NIT Raipur, shared his reflections on LinkedIn after spending two years living and working in Hyderabad. In the now-viral post, Gupta acknowledged that Hyderabad might not boast the same obvious attractions as cities such as Bengaluru, Pune or Gurgaon, but said that what truly sets it apart is something more intangible—its people.
“Hyderabad may not have Bangalore’s weather, Pune’s treks, or Gurgaon’s nightlife,” Gupta wrote. “But it has something many places are slowly losing—human warmth.”
He highlighted the absence of language barriers as a key reason for the city’s welcoming nature, especially when compared to other metros. “Here, no one embarrasses you for not speaking Telugu. No one shames you for not knowing the local slang,” he wrote. “People don't demand identity before offering help—they simply show up. When you step into Hyderabad, you're not asked ‘Where are you from?’”
Gupta reflected on his daily experiences in the city, pointing to small but meaningful interactions that, in his view, revealed the city’s character. He described the local auto driver who, despite not speaking English, made the effort to ensure he reached his destination safely. Similarly, he noted how a chai vendor who didn’t speak his language still served him a cup of Irani chai with a warm nod.
In a line that resonated with many, Gupta said: “And in a city where cultures blend silently, respect speaks louder than any tongue.”
He continued: “Hyderabad is not just about the world’s best biryani (though, let’s be honest—it is unbeatable). It’s about the quiet pride of being inclusive. It’s about being rooted, yet open. It’s about being home to everyone—techie or not, Telugu or not. So no, Hyderabad may not have the ‘buzz’ of other metros. But it has a heart. And sometimes, that’s all that matters.”
The heartfelt tribute quickly gained traction on social media, drawing praise from residents and non-residents alike who echoed Gupta’s sentiments.
“Hyderabad is my home for the last 21 years. What you wrote above, I have experienced from day 1 to date. I love this city and the warmth of the people. Hence, I am a 100% proud and pakka Hyderabadi,” one LinkedIn user commented.
Another wrote, “Yes, it’s a beautiful city that has a great blend of culture.”
“Couldn’t agree more. People in Hyderabad are too generous,” a third user added.
