The central government has recommended a ban on 23 dangerous dog breeds

To address the rising number of dog attack cases, the central government has proposed a ban on 23 dangerous dog breeds in India. The central government has written to state governments asking them to ban the import, sale and breeding of certain dog breeds which are considered dangerous, according to a Times of India report. These breeds include Rottweiler, Mastiffs and Pitbulls. The ban will also cover mixed breeds and crossbreeds of these dog breeds.

In its letter, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying urged state governments to refrain from issuing licenses or permits for the sale and breeding of these dogs. Owners who already have these breeds as pets should be encouraged to have them neutered or spayed to prevent further breeding.
