A Russian fitness trainer and influencer died in his sleep after forcing himself to consume extreme quantities of junk food in a controversial bid to prove the effectiveness of his weight-loss programme.
Dmitry Nuyanzin, 30, from Orenburg, reportedly ate up to 10,000 kilocalories a day for weeks as part of a self-imposed “marathon” challenge. His goal was to gain at least 25 kg before demonstrating how quickly he could shed the weight — a stunt he hoped would inspire his clients. But his heart failed as he slept, according to Russian outlet Ostorozhno Novosti.
Trainer documented high-calorie diet online
Nuyanzin shared his daily meals with thousands of followers on a Russian social media platform, revealing a diet heavy on processed foods. “For breakfast, I have a plate of pastries and half a cake. For lunch, I usually eat 800 grams of dumplings with mayonnaise. During the day, I may snack on crisps, and for dinner, I have a burger and two small pizzas,” he wrote earlier this month, as per the Daily Mail.
By November 18, he announced his weight had reached 105 kg — a gain of at least 13 kg in one month. His challenge rules promised that anyone weighing over 100 kg who lost 10 percent of their body weight by the New Year would win 10,000 rubles (about Rs 11,500), paid directly by him.
Cancelled sessions before fatal heart failure
Nuyanzin reportedly cancelled training sessions a day before his death, telling friends he felt unwell and intended to see a doctor. Three days later, he was buried in Orenburg. Friends described him as “bright” and “positive,” with tributes flooding Russian social media. “Dima, it’s so sad that you left so early… such an incredible person,” the Daily Mail quoted one online user as saying.
Similar incident in September
Nuyanzin’s death comes just months after Belarusian bodybuilder Ilya “Golem” Yefimchuk, 36, died of cardiac arrest in September. Yefimchuk allegedly consumed 16,500 kilocalories daily to maintain his 158 kg frame.
