Last year, Elon Musk had offered Wikipedia $1 billion only if it changed its name to "Dickipedia". While the free online encyclopedia had rejected the offer, Musk--the richest person in the world and worth more than $450 billion--recently announced that his offer still stands.
Recently, when Doge Designer shared the contents of the original post on X, Musk responded with: "True. Offer still stands."
Musk's original post in October 2023 criticised the Wikimedia Foundation's financial dealings and questioned the necessity of their funding. He subsequently made his billion-dollar offer claiming it was "in the interests of accuracy" and added that the foundation would have to keep its new name for "one year minimum".
"Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money?" the tech billionaire had written. "It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know…"
He added in a separate post: “I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia... in the interests of accuracy.”
