MERC nod for MSEDCL proposal to procure 1000mw power in '12

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved state power utility MSEDCL''s proposal to procure 1000 mw power this fiscal (FY12).

While 800 mw would be procured from Adani Power, 200 mw would be sourced from JSW Energy, both at the rate of Rs 4.10/kWh.
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) had filed a petition seeking approval of MERC for medium-term power procurement of 1,000 mw in one year (2011-12), instead of the already approved 2,000 mw for two years.
The commission, in its order, has approved power procurement of 200 mw from Unit 2 of JSW Energy''s Ratnagiri power plant, and 800 mw from Unit 1 of Adani''s Tiroda plant (in Maharashtra) or Mundra power plant (in Gujarat) or any other power source (other than Unit 2 and Unit 3 of Tiroda power plant).
MERC has also directed MSEDCL to submit the power purchase agreements (PPA) with Adani Power and JSW Energy in this regard.
