Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, while addressing the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, announced the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate into the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam.

"The winter session was lost and the country cannot afford to lose another session. Our Government is committed to root out corruption. The Government is fully cooperating with the investigations into the 2G scam. The Government also agrees to setting up of JPC," said Singh. "The Government agreed for a JPC as the country can ill afford disruption of the crucial Budget Session," he added.

Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj thanked the Prime Minister for announcing the formation of a JPC to investigate the 2G spectrum scam and called it a victory of democracy. "I thank the Prime Minister and welcome the JPC. This is victory of democracy. This is not a victory of the Opposition or the defeat of the Government," Sushma said.
