A two-feet long baby crocodile was found in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool, located in the Dadar area of Mumbai on Tuesday.

According to a News18 report, the lifeguard at the facility spotted and captured the reptile, but was bitten in the process. Other reports said that the crocodile was spotted in the pool at 5:30 am on Tuesday.
"Today, our staff found a baby crocodile in this Olympic-size swimming pool. With the help of experts, it was rescued and handed over to the forest department," the coordinator at the swimming pool, Sandeep Vaishampayan, who does inspection checks at the facility every morning, told the media.

The baby crocodile was later kept inside a drum and an official said that the reptile may have entered the swimming pool from a nearby zoo.

An official from the municipal corporation said that an investigation had begun to find out how the crocodile entered the swimming pool. "An investigation is underway to find out how the crocodile ended up in the swimming pool, and based on it, necessary action will be taken," Kishor Gandhi, a senior official with BMC, said.

Another official said that the process to hand over the reptile to the forest department had been initiated.
