A couple in Himachal Pradesh solemnised their marriage online after the groom was denied leave by his boss in Turkiye to come for his wedding to India. With the bride in Mandi and the groom in Turkiye, family members coordinated a virtual nikaah on Monday to fulfill the wishes of the bride's ailing grandfather.

Adnan Muhammad, a native of Bilaspur, had initially planned to travel to India for his wedding. However, his employer refused to grant him leave, forcing the couple and their families to consider alternative solutions. The urgency of the marriage became more pressing when the bride's elderly grandfather expressed a wish to see his granddaughter married as soon as possible.

On Sunday, members of Adnan's family made the journey from Bilaspur to Mandi, marking a traditional procession despite the unconventional nature of the ceremony. The marriage itself took place on Monday over a video call, where the couple exchanged vows, with a qazi overseeing the rituals.

This isn’t the first time technology has played a crucial role in wedding ceremonies in Himachal Pradesh. Last July, another couple were forced to wed over video conferencing when their baarat was stranded by severe landslides and flash floods.
