A terrifying video has captured the intensity of Storm Gerrit which has battered much of the United Kingdom (UK). The clip shows an American Airlines plane making a choppy landing in extreme winds at the London Heathrow airport.
The Boeing 777 struggled to make a safe landing on Wednesday amid strong, gusting crosswinds.
The landing was caught live on camera by Big Jet TV, which live-streams landings of planes.
The American Airlines flight to London came from Los Angeles.
Air traffic was badly affected due to Storm Gerrit, with flight cancellations across the UK, including Manchester and Glasgow. British Airways cancelled 13 flights because of bad weather, CNN reported.
Heathrow Airport, the UK's main travel hub, cancelled 18 flights on Wednesday because of air traffic control restrictions on domestic routes. Flights to European cities like Barcelona and Berlin were also affected.
Several regions of the UK, particularly Scotland and northern England, have been badly hit by Storm Gerrit since Wednesday, which has brought heavy rain and snow. Three people have died in northern England.
Winds of up to 136 kilometres per hour (85 miles per hour) were recorded in Aberdeenshire in Scotland.
The UK's Met Office said a supercell thunderstorm caused damage in Greater Manchester on Wednesday night, with features suggesting "a tornado at the surface was likely".
Thousands of homes remained without power in Scotland on Thursday afternoon, while rail and air transport were disrupted with trains and flights cancelled.
