Bengaluru techie loses Rs 60 lakh to scammers offering part-time job: reports

A Bengaluru woman was cheated Rs 60 lakh by scammers offering a fake part-time job opportunity, a Times of India report said. The women, a 27-year-old software engineer living in the Sarjapur area of the city, lost the money during the week September 11-19. As per police officials, the woman got a text message with a link on September 11 informing her about the part-time job.

She clicked on the link, which took her to a Telegram group, where the woman was told review hotels and earn Rs 100, in exchange. Initially, the woman got a small amount for reviewing hotels but later the scammers informed her about an investment opportunity that could help her make huge profits.

The woman began investing and withdrew money from her and her mother-in-law's account. She eventually invested Rs 60 lakh, but later realised that she had been cheated after having not got the job that she was offered, initially.

This is not the first instance in which software engineers or other professionals have lost large sums of money after falling for fake job offers by scammers.
