A Bihar police officer has been suspended after a CCTV video of him harassing a brother-sister duo inside a restaurant went viral, sparking outrage online.
The incident took place on October 24 at BR-11 Restaurant in Barsoi, Katihar district. In the footage, the Station House Officer (SHO) can be seen approaching a man and a woman seated together. He then questions the man, asking, “Kaun hai ye?” (Who is this sitting with you?)
The man calmly responds, “Behen hai meri” (She is my sister). However, the officer suddenly raises his voice, accusing him of “talking back” and telling him to “watch his tone and temper.” The man replies, “Aapne poocha toh maine bola behen hai” (You asked, so I told you she’s my sister), as the confrontation escalates.
Another officer soon joins in, while other diners look on in discomfort. A bystander eventually steps forward to diffuse the situation, but the video — showing the officer’s aggressive conduct — quickly spread across social media.
Following the uproar, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Katihar ordered an inquiry. The investigation confirmed that the SHO had used indecent language and behaved negligently and arbitrarily, damaging the image of the police department.
Taking note of the findings, officials suspended the SHO with immediate effect, stating that further departmental action will follow.
The viral clip has reignited debate about police accountability and misuse of authority, with many social media users demanding strict disciplinary action and behavioural reform within the force.
