Wrestler Babita Phogat attended “Dangal” actor Suhani Bhatnagar’s prayer meeting in Faridabad, Harayana on Monday. Bhatnagar essayed the role of young Babita Phogat in the film. The 19-year-old died at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) last week.
Phogat took to Instagram to share pictures while attending the young actor’s prayer meeting. In one of the photos, she was also seen consoling Bhatnagar’s mother and holding her hand.
Bhatnagar died on February 16 after she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition called dermatomyositis. According to her family, she had developed swelling in her hands two months ago and it later spread to her entire body. She was taken to AIIMS where she was diagnosed with the rare condition and her steroid treatment started.
However, she contracted an infection due to a weakened immune system. The infection spread to her lungs making it difficult to breathe. She died after 11 days of getting admitted.
"Even after putting her on a ventilator, her oxygen level was very low, and then yesterday evening at 7 pm, the AIIMS doctors said ‘she is not more,” her father, Puneet Bhatnagar, told ANI.
After acting in “Dangal”, Bhatnagar wanted to concentrate on her studies. Her mother mentioned that she had plans of returning to acting after graduation. “She was performing very well in college, she even topped in the last semester. She was brilliant in everything and wanted to excel in whatever she wanted to do. Our daughter has made us very proud.”
"Dangal", directed by Nilesh Tiwari starred Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles. Suhani Bhatnagar played young Babita Phogat while Zaira Wasim essayed the role of Geeta Phogat.
