Late Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s son Faisal tweeted on April 5 that he was tired of waiting around as the top leadership of the party has not shown any encouragement. Faisal added that he is "keeping his options open" for the future.
Ahmed, a chief strategist of the Congress and and political secretary to party president Sonia Gandhi, passed away due to multiple-organ failure in November 2020.

A week ago, Faisal had refused to comment if he would formally join politics saying he was not sure about it.
On March 27, he tweeted, “Starting April 1, I will be touring the seven assembly seats of Bharuch and Narmada districts. My team will assess the current reality of the political situation and will make major changes if needed to accomplish our main goal - win all seven seats, god willing.”
Several senior Congress leaders have reiterated their demand for reform in the party's leadership, especially after the party's recent poll debacle in the assembly elections.
