An estimated 49.01 percent of over 40 lakh voters exercised their franchise till 1 pm in the fifth and final phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections, IANS has reported.
28.24 percent polling recorded till 11 am
Around 28.24 percent of over 40 lakh voters exercised their franchise till 11 am in the fifth and final phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections, Election Commission (EC) officials said.
Long queues were seen before polling stations in the 16 constituencies with voters braving minimum temperatures hovering between 6.6 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius. (PTI)

The Election Commission has set up 8,987 ballot units, 6,738 control units and 7,006 VVPAT machines. Altogether, 249 polling stations have been marked as model booths. As many as 133 polling stations have women staff while 1,347 have webcasting facilities, Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey told PTI.
Jharkhand Assembly election, Phase 5:
In all, 40,05,287 electorate, including 19,55,336 women and 30 third gender voters, are eligible to cast their vote, Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey said. Adequate security forces have been deployed, he said.
Of 5,389 polling stations, 396 in Naxal-affected areas have been marked as "critical" while 208 have been declared "sensitive".
In all, 1,321 polling stations in non-left wing extremism affected areas have been marked as "critical" while 1,765 declared "sensitive". (PTI)

The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance has fielded candidates from all 16 constituencies. While the JMM has fielded nominees in 11 constituencies, the Congress and the RJD are contesting from four and one segments, respectively.
The Babulal Marandi-headed Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) has also fielded candidates in this round.

Out of 237 candidates contesting in the fifth phase of voting in Jharkhand Assembly election, 29 are women. This amounts to 12 percent candidature.

Education of candidates
A total of 94 out of 237 candidates contesting have an educational qualification equivalent to graduate or above. This amounts to 40 percent of the candidates.
As many as 129 candidates – 54% – declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass. Just 1 candidate has declared his education just literate, while 13 candidate declared his education as ‘Illiterate’.

Jharkhand Assembly Election, Phase 5:
The seats going for the final leg voting are Rajmahal, Borio (ST), Barhait (ST), Litipara (ST), Pakur, Maheshpur (ST), Sikaripara (ST), Nalla, Jamtara, Dumka (ST), Jama (ST), Jarmundi, Sarath, Poreyahat, Godda and Mahagama across six districts in the Santhal Pargana region of the state.
Elections have already been held in 65 out of total 81 Assembly constituencies in the previous four phases between November 30 and December 16.
Crorepati candidates
Out of the 237 candidates, 51 are crorepatis, which means 22 percent of candidates have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore.
Going party-wise, 6 (38%) out of 16 candidates analysed from BJP, 4 (25%) out of 16 candidates analysed from JVM(P), 10 (91%) out of 11 candidates analysed from JMM, 4 (33%) out of 12 candidates analysed from AJSU Party and 3 (75%) out of 4 candidates from Congress are crorepati.
Average assets: The average of assets per candidate contesting in the second phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections is Rs 71.68 Lakhs.

Among the 237 candidates in ballot battle in Phase 5, 58 have declared criminal cases against themselves. This ran through party lines. This makes up around 25% of all the candidates.
Among these candidates, 7 (44%) out of 16 candidates analysed from BJP, 5 (31%) out of 16 candidates analysed from JVM(P), 3 (25%) out of 12 candidates analysed from BSP, 6 (55%) out of 11 candidates analysed from JMM, 2 (50%) out of 4 candidates analysed from Congress and 2 (17%) out

Former deputy chief minister and sitting JMM MLA Stephen Marandi is seeking re-election from Maheshpur.

Fate of two Jharkhand ministers, former CM Hemant Soren to be decided in last phase
In the final round of elections, the fate of two Jharkhand ministers and former chief minister Hemant Soren will be decided.Soren, who is contesting in two seats, is facing a tough fight from Woman and Child Welfare Minister Louis Marandi of the BJP from Dumka and Simon Malto of the saffron party from Barhait.
State Agriculture Minister Randhir Singh of BJP is contesting from Sarath.
