The Union Cabinet is likely to be reshuffled this Sunday (October 28), reports CNBC-TV18.
Talk of a reshuffle was on for quite sometime after the exit of Trinamool Congress ministers and DMK representatives A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran in the last two years.
Reports of an eminent reshuffle gained fresh momentum after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi met President Pranab Mukherjee separately recently. There are six junior minister slots vacant.
Rumors abound that some young faces could be included in the Cabinet. Among the young ministers, Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasada may get promoted to Cabinet rank or get independent charge as Ministers of State.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, political analyst Yogendra Yadav says the government's image has taken a beating and thus required a complete overhaul. "I don’t think Congress would want Rahul Gandhi to take up Human Resources Development ministry," he said adding, preparations for next general elections have begun.
