Interim Budget’s push for infrastructure: Newly added smallcap stocks by infrastructure mutual funds

Experts believe that this could accelerate the infra development activities in the absence of much private capex spending. The Government increased capex outlay to 3.3% of GDP for FY 2023–24, nearly trebling its expenditure in 2019–20

Continuing its commitment towards building essential infrastructure and driving economic growth, the Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the Interim Budget 2024, has proposed to increase the capex outlay for the next year by 11.1 percent to Rs 11,11,111 crore. Experts are of the opinion that this could boost infrastructure development activities in the absence of substantial private capex spending. Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist, Bank of Baroda says, “Within the confines of the fiscal space that is available, the government is channelling enough for capex which is almost 40% of the additional total outlay. This is being directed to roads, railways and defence and it can have positive linkage effects with industries like steel, cement, capital goods etc.” Here are the newly added smallcap stocks by the 18 infrastructure mutual funds over the last three months. Portfolio data as of December 2023. Source: ACEMF.
