Special situations opportunities funds aim to capitalise from the unique situations faced by a company, industry or economy which may create a temporary disruption in their share prices. Currently, there are four schemes -Franklin India Opportunities, ICICI Prudential India Opportunities, Aditya Birla Sun Life Special Opportunities and Axis Special Situations and two new fund offers from Samco and WhiteOak Capital mutual funds follow this strategy while building their portfolio. Kotak Mahindra MF has also applied for fund based on this theme.
These schemes are largely focusing on a very specific news that has to do with that particular stock such as corporate restructuring (including mergers & acquisitions, etc), government policy or regulatory changes, technology-led disruption and innovation, new trends, new & emerging sectors, companies or sectors going through temporary unique challenges and other similar instances.
Here are the newly added stocks by the four special situations over the last three months. Data as of April 2024. Source: ACEMF.
