Mercedes-Benz India has launched the EQA electric SUV (e-SUV) at Rs 66 lakh (ex-showroom, India). To be offered in a single and fully loaded variant called EQA 250+, the electric version of the GLA has a a claimed range of up to 560 km per charge. The EQA is the smallest electric SUV from the German carmaker.
With the rollout of EQA, the luxury carmaker will now be selling four electric cars, which also include EQB 7-seater SUV, EQS limousine, and EQE SUV. It is the most affordable compact crossover that Mercedes has to offer in the country and is based on the same platform as the GLA, which was launched earlier in the year.
According to Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, “Customers are increasingly adopting sustainable lifestyle and their choice of vehicle manifests these changing preferences. With the EQA and EQB, we are targeting young customers desiring sporty, dynamic, highly intuitive BEVs, which are practical, offering ownership experience better than ICE counterparts."
The EQA is the fourth battery electric vehicle (BEV) from Mercedes-Benz in India after the EQB, EQE and the EQS.
Mercedes plans to launch two more EVs in India by the end of 2024, which are the Maybach EQS EV and the electric G-Class or the Gelandewagen. Bookings for the EQA have already begun and deliveries are likely to begin from end of 2024 or beginning 2025.
"While the EQA is Mercedes-Benz’s most successful BEV worldwide, the EQB 350 debuts in a 5-seater configuration, continuing to offer young families a practical, stylish and long-range BEV, suitable for both city and highway travel," added Iyer.
