Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday cited Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to criticise the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and said that former Home Minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel had banned the organisation.
Yadav made the claim while addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Friday and alleged that that both the Hindu Mahasabha and the RSS were banned for having "an alleged role in the killing of Mahatama Gandhi".
Hindustan Times reported that Yadav was allegedly referring to the late 1940s period when the RSS faced a temporary ban, which was later revoked a few months afterwards.
Taking a swipe at the RSS, the SP leader remarked, "You can check on ChatGPT why Sardar Patel banned the RSS."
"Hindu Mahasabha and RSS both were banned as they had an alleged role in the killing of Mahatama Gandhi. This is as per ChatGPT," he added.
Akhilesh’s comments came on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, which is observed annually to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister further said that the RSS was banned for spreading communal tension and violence, noting, "Don't blame me, this is what ChatGPT says."
He also stated that the ban on the RSS was lifted only after the organisation provided a written assurance to the government.
Talking about Sardar Patel’s legacy, Akhilesh pledged that if his party returns to power, it will establish a university in Patel’s name.
Meanwhile, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has also once again said that he believes that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) should be banned in the country.
"My personal opinion is that RSS should be banned," Kharge said at a press conference on Friday. "Sardar Patel also said that one should not work for the RSS while in government service. He had banned government employees from participating in the activities of the RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami, which the Modi government lifted on July 9, 2024. We demand that this ban be reinstated," he added.
