Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialed US president-elect Donald Trump and congratulated him for his victory in the presidential election on Wednesday. PM Modi said he looked forward to working together with Trump again to further strengthen India-US relations.
According to sources, Trump said that he considered PM Modi and India a true friend. The Republican leader added that Prime Minister Modi was one of the first world leaders he spoke to after his victory.
"Had a great conversation with my friend, President Donald Trump, congratulating him on his spectacular victory. Looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defence, energy, space and several other sectors," PM Modi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Trump told PM Modi that the whole world loves him and that India is a magnificent country. According to sources, the US president-elect also called PM Modi a magnificent man. Both leaders affirmed to work together for world peace.
Earlier today, the Prime Minsiter congratulated Trump on his "historic" presidential poll victory referring to him as 'friend'. "As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity," he said.
He also posted pictures of his previous meetings with Trump, who was the US president from 2016 to 2020.
Donald Trump registered a historic comeback on Wednesday by winning the US presidency for a second term defeating his Democratic rival Kamala Harris in a tough battle. At 78, he is now the oldest person in the US history to be elected president. When he will be sworn in on January 20, 2025, Trump will be a few months older than Joe Biden was at his inauguration in 2020.
