Three terrorists were killed after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua, according to reports on September 11.
An encounter had broken out between security forces and terrorists at the Kathua-Basantgarh border in Udhampur area of Jammu and Kashmir, according to the reports. Based on specific intelligence, an operation was launched in Kathua and contact has been established at the Kathua-Basantgarh border with terrorists, as per Public Relations Officer Defence Jammu.
The development follows a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Jammu border earlier today, when Border Security Force (BSF) said one of its personnel sustained injuries after unprovoked firing from Pakistan in Akhnoor sector near the international border.
Jammu and Kashmir is set to hold elections in three phases starting on September 18, with results expected on October 8.
In another related incident, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the upper reaches of Basantgarh in Udhampur district. The gunfight erupted when troops from the Army’s First Para unit, along with local police, conducted a search operation in the Khandara Top area after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.
The terrorists, who were hiding in the area, opened fire on the search teams around 12:50 p.m., prompting retaliation from the security forces. Reinforcements have been deployed to the forested area as efforts continue to neutralise the terrorists, officials confirmed.
