Noida has bagged the tag of cleanest city in the 3 to 10 lakh population category. At the ninth Swachh Survekshan 2024 annual awards in New Delhi on Thursday, Noida emerged as the cleanest city, followed by Chandigarh and Mysore.
Ahmedabad has been awarded the first position in the category of cities with a population of over 10 lakh, while Bhopal and Lucknow followed it on the next two spots.
Indore has once again retained its title as India’s cleanest city for the eighth consecutive year.
Surat secured the second position, while Navi Mumbai ranked third in the central government’s annual cleanliness survey.
The ninth edition of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held in New Delhi on July 17 (Thursday).
President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and Chandigarh mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla at a ceremony in the national capital after the Union housing and urban affairs ministry announced the rankings.
Speaking on the occasion, the President highlighted that cleanliness is one of the most important aspects of the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and urged the people to move forward in making the country clean, healthy and developed.
President Murmu emphasised that cleanliness has been a core element of the country’s cultural and spiritual consciousness since ancient times.
The President said that in 2025, the country witnessed a wonderful confluence of cleanliness and faith.
During the event, a total of 78 awards were presented across various categories. This year, the awards were presented across four categories, including Super Swachh League Cities and the top three cleanest cities in five different population categories.
Under the new category, Super Swachh League, Noida emerged the cleanest city, followed by Chandigarh and Mysore in the three to 10 lakh population category.
According to the ministry, 14 crore people participated in the survey through face-to-face interactions, the Swachhata App, MyGov, and social media platforms in over 4,500 cities.
The event was attended by Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar among others.
This year, the theme was: Reduce, reuse, recycle. Over 3,000 assessors conducted thorough inspections in every ward across the country over 45 days, the ministry said.
