Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram Saturday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the controversy surrounding latest Tamil language movie ‘Mersal’.
The Former Finance Minister tweeted saying soon the government will make a law that only documentaries praising the government's policies will be allowed.
“BJP demands deletion of dialogues in 'Mersal'. Imagine the consequences if 'Parasakthi' was released today,” Chidambaram said.
The movie 'Mersal' has references to the Goods and Services Tax (GST). BJP has objected to what it has called "untruths" about the new taxation regime and demanded the reference be deleted.
Earlier, actor Kamal Haasan had supported the movie saying that those who have opposed to the film must “counter criticism with a logical response”.
“Mersal was certified. Don't re-censor it," Haasan wrote on Twitter.
Haasan had a threatened to leave India after protests against his film 'Vishwaroopam'.
