SC junks plea seeking SIT probe into electoral bonds 'quid pro quo'

SC on SIT to investigate electoral bonds

The Supreme Court on August 2 dismissed a plea, seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the instance of quid pro quo in electoral bonds.

"Individual grievances regarding presence of quid pro quo would have to be pursued on the basis of remedies available under the law. Where there is a refusal to investigate or closure report has been filed, appropriate remedies can be taken under law governing criminal procedure or as the case may be under Article 226," Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said.

The PIL, filed by NGOs Common Cause and the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), alleges an "apparent quid pro quo" between political parties, corporations, and investigative agencies.

Terming it as a "scam", the plea sought a direction to the authorities to investigate the source of funding of "shell companies and loss-making companies which made donations to various political parties, as has been disclosed by the data released by the Election Commission (EC).
