Renalyx Health Systems Pvt. Ltd., the Bengaluru-headquartered based medical technology company, on Wednesday unveiled its first fully indigenous and affordable hemo-dialysis machine. The company aims to disrupt the India's reliance on costly imported devices and making kidney care more accessible.
The dialysis machine called RENALYX – RxT 21 with a starting price of Rs 6.70 lakh, with an aim to reduce the total cost of ownership by 40 percent compared to imported alternatives. The per-session dialysis costs can range from Rs 1,200 to Rs 4,500, making sustained treatment unaffordable for most Indians.
A patient requires dialysis when his kidneys that filter and eliminate waste and excess fluid from the body doesn't function normally. Patients with kidney failure would require at least three dialysis sessions per week.
The device, which is completely designed and manufactured in India, integrates cloud-based tele-nephrology and real-time remote monitoring, allowing doctors to oversee patient treatment from afar.
The company said the launch positions Renalyx as the first Indian and only the sixth company globally to produce an advanced dialysis machine with EU CE certification. The move addresses a critical gap in India, where an estimated 2.2 lakh new patients require dialysis annually, creating a demand for 3.4 crore sessions. The vast majority of the country's 4,950 dialysis centers are private and concentrated in Tier 1 cities, leaving rural and semi-urban populations underserved.
"Our cutting-edge hemodialysis machine will revolutionise the renal care by making dialysis facility affordable and accessible, thus strengthening the kidney healthcare infrastructure of the country," said Dr. Shyam Vasudeva Rao, Founder & Director of Renalyx Health Systems. "By bringing dialysis services closer to patients’ homes, RxT 21 will help in addressing the rising Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) burden and ESRD patients".
Investment and Expansion Plan
To fuel its growth, Renalyx plans to invest ₹800 crores over the next four years to scale up its manufacturing capabilities. The company intends to build capacity for 5,000 machines by FY25-26, with an additional 1,500 by FY27-28, supported by its facilities in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mumbai. It also plans to go public within the next three years.
Funding for this expansion will be sourced through a combination of equity sales, debt, and further investment from its promoters.
In addition to its new smart machine, Renalyx has licensed the production of its standard model, the RENALYX – RxT 17, to public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL), which will produce 6,000 units over the next three years.
Aligning with the "Make in India Make for the World" initiative, Renalyx has already secured orders from South Africa, the USA, and Europe.
"We aim to become one of the world’s leading producers and exporters within the next five years," Dr. Rao stated.
While Indian regulatory approval is expected by July 2025, the company said it is also pursuing USFDA approval, anticipated by March 2026.
Rao said RxT 21's technological suite gives it a competitive edge over established players like Fresenius, BBraun, and Nipro. The company says its key differentiators include integrated telenephrology = a comprehensive web-based Nephrology Information System (NIS) with cloud-based EMR, which also works with third-party machines; advanced patient monitoring that tracks SpO2, pulse rate, and other vitals. The machine is equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, remote diagnostics, and AI-based algorithms for proactive safety and predictive maintenance.
The machine is also designed to work with consumables from any provider, unlike competing closed systems that lead to higher lifetime costs for healthcare facilities.
The company also plans to develop a broader portfolio, including a portable home hemodialysis machine, the RxT 22, and a specialized pediatric dialysis machine.
