Rajya Sabha Elections 2022 Highlights: Voting began at 9 am today for electing 16 Rajya Sabha members comprising six in Maharashtra, four each in Rajasthan and Karnataka and two in Haryana. As many as 57 seats in the upper house are failing vacant and 41 candidates were elected unopposed. The election is crucial in view of the presidential elections scheduled for July 18.

Rajya Sabha Elections 2022 Highlights: Rajya Sabha elections are being held for six seats in Maharashtra, four each in Rajasthan and Karnataka and two in Haryana today. As many as 180 MLAs have cast their votes in Maharashtra. In Rajasthan more that 40 per cent lawmakers have voted. Earlier in the day, Bombay High Court rejected Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik's petition seeking release from jail here to enable him to cast his vote in the Rajya Sabha elections.  Also, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) decided to vote in favour of the Congress candidate in fray for the Rajya Sabha polls from Maharashtra. Voting for the high-stakes elections began at 9 am. As many as 41 candidates, of the 57 seats falling vacant, have already been elected unopposed. The Rajya Sabha election will be crucial in view of the presidential elections scheduled for July 18. Two union ministers - Nirmala Sitharaman from Karnataka and Piyush Goyal from Maharashtra- are also among Rajya Sabha candidates for Friday’s polls. Of the 41 candidates elected unopposed, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has 17 members, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has 10, and regional parties 14. This election assumes significance as the results will influence political events till 2024, according to analyst Amitabh Tiwari. This is the last big election to the Upper House before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Tiwari said. Next year, only 10 members are due for retirement, and the status quo is likely to be maintained.

Rajya Sabha Elections 2022 LIVE | All 200 Rajasthan MLAs cast vote for 4 RS seats; one BJP MLA cross votes



All 200 Rajasthan MLAs had cast their vote for the Rajya Sabha elections by afternoon on June 10. The counting of votes for the four seats will start at 5 pm.Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria admitted that one BJP MLA has cross-voted, which might make the victory of Independent candidate Subhash Chandra difficult. "How can we win two seats when we had the votes to win just one seat? We lost nothing. As far as cross-voting by one MLA is concerned, the party will take action for violating the whip," he told PTI while leaving the assembly after polling.

Rajya Sabha Elections 2022 LIVE | After horse-riding claims in RS polls, HD Kumaraswamy calls Congress 'B' team of BJP



As the polling for Rajya Sabha elections is underway in Karnataka, Janata Dal (S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on June 10 called Congress a "B" team of the Bharatiya Janata Party and blamed the grand old party for BJP's rise in the country.
Kumaraswamy also said his own party MLAs are not voting for JD(S).
"I had said that Srinivasa Gowda will vote for Congress. SR Srinivas also didn't vote for JD(S). Congress has shown its true face today. Congress is the 'B' team of the BJP. They are the main culprit for the rising of the BJP in the country," Kumaraswamy told media persons. (ANI)

Rajya Sabha Elections 2022 LIVE | Bombay HC refuses immediate relief to Nawab Malik to cast vote in RS elections


The Bombay High Court on June 10 refused to hear the amended petition filed by Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik seeking permission to cast his vote in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Earlier in the day, the bench of Justice Bharati Dangare denied immediate relief to jailed Malik.
The court said that this petition is wrong and asked him to approach with an amended application before an appropriate bench.
NCP leaders Malik and Deshmukh approached the Bombay High Court for temporary release to cast their vote, yesterday after the Special PMLA court dismissed their applications. (ANI)

BJP has raised objections on three votes of MVA- Yashomati Thakur of INC, Jitendra Awhad of NCP and Suhas Kande of Shiv Sena. INLD's Abhay Chautala said on Friday that he has voted for media baronKartikeya Sharma, who is contesting Rajya Sabha election with BJP's backing fro Haryana. Chautala also hit out at the Congress party on the occasion. "The manner in which Congress has treated its MLAs clearly show the party doesn’t even trust it’s own MLAs, that’s why all of them were taken to a resort.It’s surprising that Congress doesn’t trust it’s own MLAs and fear that they would indulge in cross voting or succumb to alleged horse trading," he said.
