Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab tomorrow (September 9) to review the flood and landslide situation in both states.
At around 1:30 PM, the Prime Minister will arrive in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, where he will chair a high-level review meeting with officials, interact with flood-affected people, and meet teams from the NDRF, SDRF and Aapda Mitra. He will also conduct an aerial survey of the worst-affected regions in the state.
Later in the afternoon, PM Modi will undertake an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Punjab. He is scheduled to reach Gurdaspur around 4:15 PM, where he will hold discussions with senior officials and review the ground situation. He will also meet affected families and interact with rescue and relief personnel.
The Prime Minister’s direct review aims to closely monitor ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts to assist the people of both states.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur voiced grave concern over the widespread destruction caused by relentless monsoon disasters.
Speaking to ANI, Thakur said, “Tomorrow, PM Modi will also conduct an aerial survey of the disaster-affected areas in Himachal, and after that, he will come to Kangra and meet the affected families and will also meet the government. We welcome the PM’s visit to Himachal. In such a situation, if this kind of sequence continues, then how will Himachal be able to stand on its feet? Upon assessing the damage, it appears that Himachal will take many years to recover and stand on its feet again.”
Thakur underlined that the devastation had left “no district untouched” in the state.
