Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated a bamboo-based ethanol facility worth Rs 5,000 crore at Numaligarh in Assam’s Golaghat district. Officials described it as a “zero-waste” plant that will make use of every part of the bamboo and is projected to give a Rs 200-crore push to the rural economy in the state, reported PTI.

The newly set-up plant will draw 5 lakh tonnes of green bamboo annually from four northeastern states. In doing so, it is expected to directly and indirectly benefit more than 50,000 people, officials pointed out.
