The Ministry of Defence on Thursday confirmed that the Pakistan military attempted to attack several Indian locations, including Srinagar, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, on the night of May 7, following Operation Sindoor.
The Ministry stated that Pakistan aimed to engage military targets in these cities located in Northern and Western India. However, these attacks were thwarted by India's Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.
The Indian military is currently recovering debris from the attacks to establish Pakistan's involvement in this aggression.
In the early hours of May 7, India launched strikes on nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to eliminate what was described as "terror infrastructure."
These strikes were a retaliatory response to Pakistan's alleged role in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians and left many others injured.
Here’s a city-wise breakdown of the locations reportedly targeted by Pakistan:
Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar: Pakistan attempted drone incursions against military installations, but Indian defence systems intercepted these threats.
Jammu: No direct casualties were reported from missile or drone attacks. Cross-border shelling resulted in civilian injuries and caused power outages in parts of the city. Emergency protocols were activated, and civilians were advised to stay indoors.
Awantipora: This city faced drone threats that were effectively countered by Indian forces.
Poonch: At least 16 people, including women and children, were killed due to Pakistani shelling, according to the Defence Ministry. Intermittent power disruptions were reported, and schools and public places have been temporarily closed.
Uri and Baramulla: These areas experienced shelling and reports of drone sightings.
Mendhar and Rajouri: Heavy shelling occurred in both Mendhar and Rajouri. The Indian Army responded by targeting and destroying multiple enemy posts involved in the attacks.
Punjab
Amritsar: The city faced missile threats, all of which were intercepted without causing harm.
Pathankot: No casualties were reported here, but attempted drone strikes were intercepted. A blackout was implemented, air raid sirens were tested, and emergency services were placed on high alert.
Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Adampur: These cities were on high alert due to attempted drone attacks, which were successfully thwarted.
Jalandhar: Pakistani drones attempted to fly over the Jalandhar cantonment zones but were shot down before entering the inner perimeter.
Rajasthan
Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai: These Air Force Stations were targeted but remained unharmed.
Chandigarh
Air sirens sounded, and a citywide blackout was enforced in Chandigarh following the Pakistani missile strikes in Jammu, prompting emergency safety measures. Power was restored after midnight once the threat level subsided. Sirens sounded again on Friday morning, warning of a potential aerial attack.
Gujarat
Bhuj: No casualties were reported, and drone threats were intercepted.
