Only 6.1% students yet to find jobs, clarifies IIT-B

Yesterday, it was reported that 36 percent out of the total students registered for placements in 2024 are yet to secure jobs.

Contradicting reports of alarmingly high joblessness among its latest graduates, the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, known to be one of the most selective in India, released data from an official exit poll on April 4 indicating only 6.1% of its 2023 class remains unemployed.

In a post on X, the institute said, “Lately there has been news that over 30% of IITB students do not get jobs! An exit survey among graduating students in 2022-23 says only 6.1% are still looking for jobs. Here is the survey result for you to decide...”

The clarification from India's elite engineering school aims to quell concerns over a dearth of opportunities for its highly coveted graduates amid economic headwinds.

 

However, yesterday's report is for 2024, which said that 36 percent students, 712 out of the  2,000 registered for placements, are yet to secure jobs. The placement that began in December ends in May this year.
