NIA conducts multiple raids at premises of terrorist associates in Punjab, Haryana
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted raids at 10 locations in Punjab and Haryana at the premises connected with some associates of Canada-based terrorist Arshdeep Dala, an official said.
The raids were conducted a day after a special court in Mohali declared Dala a proclaimed offender in a case of conspiracy to kill a priest in Punjab, a spokesperson of the federal agency said.
The official said the searches were conducted at the premises of associates of Dala and his close aide Manpreet Singh alias Peeta, currently living in the Philippines, in a case registered suo motu by the NIA on August 20 last year.

-- Bodies of two children, aged 7 and 8 years, were found inside an old wooden box at a factory in the Jamia Nagar area of Delhi.
-- A call was received at PS Jamia Nagar regarding the discovery of the bodies of two children at house No F2 Joga Bai extension. They had been missing since yesterday.
-- The deceased used to live in this house with their parents; their father Balbir worked as a guard on the property, the Delhi Police informed.
-- Local inquiry revealed that the deceased had lunch at 3 pm with their parents and went missing around 3.30 pm.
-- The crime team has confirmed that there is no injury on the bodies and this seems to be a case of accidental asphyxia.

Police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory in view of the closure of carriageways of Sarita Vihar flyover on Outer Ring Road for 50 days from Wednesday owing to repair work being undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD).
The flyover is a part of Mathura Road which connects southeast Delhi to Faridabad in Haryana.

Govt removes 40% procurement ceilings on various pulses
The Government of India has removed the procurement ceilings of 40 percent for tur, urad, and masur dal (pulses) under Price Support Scheme operations for 2023-24.
The removal of the procurement ceiling is expected to boost domestic production of pulses, the Government said.
It added: “The assured procurement of these pulses by the Government at remunerative prices will help motivate the farmers to enhance sowing area in respect of tur, urad and masur in the upcoming Kharif and Rabi sowing seasons in order to enhance the production.”

CBI takes over investigation into Balasore train accident, probe underway
The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case on the request of Ministry of Railways, consent of the Odisha Government and further orders from DoPT(Govt. of India) relating to the train accident involving Coromandel Express, Yashwantpur-Howrah Express and a Goods train at Bahanaga Bazar in the State of Odisha on 2nd June, 2023.
CBI has taken over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Balasore GRPS, District Cuttack(Odisha) vide GRPS Case No.64 dated 03.06.2023 regarding the said accident. A CBI team has reached Balasore (Odisha).
Investigation is continuing.

Odisha Train Accident LIVE Updates: Odisha to bear transportation cost of bodies
Odisha Chief Secretary PK Jena told reporters that the state will bear the transportation cost of taking the bodies of the triple train accident victims to different states. "Arrangements for free transportation of the bodies by hearses to various destinations will be done to help the bereaved families," he said.
At least 192 bodies were brought to Bhubaneswar from Balasore on June 4 and kept in the morgues of six private and government hospitals. According to a government note, 1,009 of those 1,207 injured who were admitted in different hospitals have been discharged.

IRDAI has asked all insurance companies to proactively process, simplify and fast-track settlement of claims related to the triple train crash in Balasore. “Claims shall be processed proactively, if the insured’s name is in the list of deceased or injured persons…and was travelling in the trains which met with accident as identified by the appropriate government authorities,” the IRDAI said in a circular issued to insurers on June 5. They will also have to fast-track disbursement of approved claims.
Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also asked insurers to expedite settlement processes.

India-Germany Defence Meet: Indo-Rus relations not for Germany to change on our own, says Pistorius
India remaining dependent on Russian weapons is not in Germany's interest, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius told state-owned broadcaster DW before he began his 4-day trip to India.
"It is not up to Germany to change that on our own. This is an issue we have to solve jointly with other partners. But of course, we can't have an interest in the long run that India is so dependent on Russia's delivery of weapons or other materials," Pistorius said while replying to a question on India's dependence on Russian weaponry.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius is on a visit to India after holding meets in Indonesia and Singapore. The minister told media the meets come as they want to "send a signal that we are willing to support our partners, our reliable partners like Indonesia, like India". He added that this support includes "the possibility of delivering submarines". He did not elaborate, but in June 2021, India had cleared a Rs 43,000 crore project to build six six conventional submarines for the Indian Navy.
The submarines are expected to be conducted under the 'strategic partnership model' which allows domestic defence manufacturers to partner with foreign defence leaders to produce high-end military platforms to reduce import dependence.

The Indian Railways has launched a safety drive with all zonal headquarters. The directions include security of station relay rooms and compounds housing signalling equipment, including "double locking arrangements".
In a letter to general managers of all zones, the Railway Board has directed that a safety drive should be launched immediately with special focus on all 'goomties' (rooms along tracks) housing signalling equipment within station limits. It said they should be checked and it should be ensured they have "double locking arrangements". The board said that "all relay rooms in stations should be checked and ensured for the proper working of 'double locking arrangement'".
"It should also be checked and ensured that there is data logging and generation of SMS alert for opening/closing of the door of these relay rooms," it said. "During safety drive these items should be checked at 100 per cent of the above locations, further these items should be super-checked by officers for 10 per cent of the above locations," it said.

Odisha Train Accident LIVE Updates: Damaged tracks restored, trains began movement
Just 5 hours after the damaged tracks in Balasore were restored, and around 51 hours since the accident, trains have begun plying the line. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and other senior officials have been camping at the site to oversee restoration work.
First to move on the route was coal carrying goods train from Vizag to Rourkela Steel Plant. It took the route at 10.40 pm on June 4. The first high-speed train was the Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat Express, which passed on June 5 morning. Next trains were the Howrah-Puri Express and Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Sampark Kranti Express.\
Vaishnav waved to the train drivers who passed the route.
Odisha Train Accident LIVE Updates: Odisha police registered case under IPC and Railway Act
A case under sections of the Railways Act and the IPC has been registered by the Odisha police. The case is against those who caused death by negligence in the Balasore accident, sources told PTI.
IPC sections such as 37 and 38 (related to causing hurt and endangering lives through rash or negligent action), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 34 (common intention; and sections 153 (unlawful and negligent action endangering lives of Railway passengers), 154 and 175 (endangering lives) of the Railways Act, have been applied.
Odisha Train Accident LIVE Updates: Case likely to be handed to CBI's Special Crime Unit in Delhi
A CBI probe has been recommended into the Odisha train accident, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
As per procedure, the CBI will take over the Balasore GRP case number 64 registered by Odisha Police. Sources told PTI that the Special Crime Unit at the Delhi Headquarters has been allotted the case.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have questioned and opposed the need for CBI involvement in the case. However, officials said findings of a preliminary probe like "deliberate interference" in the system necessitated the investigation by a professional agency.
