A 3.5km stretch of the Mumbai coastal road's north-bound carriageway will open to traffic from July 11, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said. The section, running from Haji Ali to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli, will be closed to vehicles on Saturdays and Sundays.

The stretch will be accessible from Monday to Friday between 7 am and 11 pm, starting at 7 am on July 11, the civic body said in a release. This corridor is being opened temporarily for vehicles heading to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link from Coastal Road. The weekend closures are necessary to complete the remaining work on the project.

On July 10, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the stretch along with municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and other officials. The coastal road was 91 percent complete, the CM said, urging the administration to finish the remaining work swiftly.

In the first phase, the BMC opened a 9.5km south-bound corridor of Coastal Road from Bindu Madhav Chowk in Worli to Marine Drive on March 11. This was followed by the opening of a 6.25km-long north-bound carriageway between Marine Drive and Lotus Junction at Haji Ali on June 10.
