Karnataka Minister for Commerce, Industries, and Infrastructure MB Patil has offered land for the Tata IISc Medical School in the proposed Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City.
Tata Group has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to set up Tata IISc Medical School on its Bengaluru campus, and pledged Rs 500 crore under agreement signed on January 14.
KWIN City, a futuristic city spanning 5,800 acres between Dabaspet and Doddaballapur, comprises four areas of concern, or districts: Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research.

“The Government of Karnataka would be delighted to make space for such an institution at KWIN City. We encourage IISc and the Tata Group to explore this project or consider future endeavours here. I will personally write to IISc and the Tata Group this week,” Patil wrote on X.
“We expect many more higher education and research institutions to take shape at KWIN. Karnataka will host a roundtable led by @CMofKarnataka for not-for-profits and foundations interested in investing in education, skilling, and innovation. Our aim is to make KWIN a one-of-a-kind destination in India.”
As an educationist himself, Patil highlighted the transformative potential of institutions in driving local economic growth. “One single institution can accelerate the local economy. KWIN will host leading global institutions and, in the long run, serve as an engine of innovation for India,” he added.
Patil has initiated discussions with representatives from prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University in the US, including its Carey Business School, Bloomberg School of Public Health, and School of Medicine, as well as the University of Liverpool, University of East London, York University, and University of Wolverhampton. He has offered land to these institutions in KWIN City.
“KWIN City aims to attract the top 500 foreign educational institutions to establish campuses in India by leveraging UGC regulations. This initiative will foster academia-industry partnerships, propelling Karnataka to the forefront of global education,” said Patil.
The city will also feature a Life Sciences Park, positioning KWIN City as Asia’s leading academic medical hub and a pioneer in healthcare innovation, by attracting top national and international hospitals, Patil added.
