Industry body National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) has urged the Karnataka government to intervene immediately on the issue of bike taxi operations in the state.
In a letter addressed to transport minister R Ramalinga Reddy, Nasscom said it has submitted a formal representation seeking urgent action to avert large-scale disruption caused by the impending ban on bike taxi services.

The appeal follows a recent Karnataka High Court order prohibiting aggregator-based bike taxi operations in Bengaluru from June 15, 2025, in the absence of a dedicated regulatory framework.
Highlighting Karnataka’s position as a leader in tech-driven innovation, Nasscom underscored the importance of tech-enabled mobility services like bike taxis in supporting livelihoods, enhancing last-mile connectivity, and easing urban traffic congestion.
“The ecosystem not only offers affordable and efficient mobility but also sustains lakhs of gig workers across the state, including students, women, migrants, and those recovering from the economic impact of the pandemic,” the statement said.
Nasscom urged the government to provide interim relief by extending the June 15 deadline and, in parallel, initiate a consultative process to formulate a comprehensive policy.
Drawing on regulatory models from Delhi, Telangana, and Rajasthan, the industry body reiterated its commitment to work closely with the government to co-develop a forward-looking framework that supports innovation, ensures commuter safety, and promotes inclusive growth.
