Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned as the Vice President on Monday citing health concerns, had recently collapsed during an event in Delhi, CNN-News18 has reported quoting sources.
According to the report, the incident took place on July 17 when Dhankhar was visiting a garden with his wife and Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
Sources said that the former Vice President's health deteriorated suddenly, prompting urgent medical assistance.
They added that Dhankhar also recently underwent an angioplasty procedure at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
In June too, Dhankhar, while on a three-day official visit to Uttarakhand, was suddenly taken ill during an event in Nainital. Members of entourage, along with local doctors, had promptly administered first aid at the Raj Bhawan.
On Monday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post "to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice."
He became only the third sitting Vice President to resign mid-term after VV Giri and Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
The opposition parties have raised eyebrows over Dhankhar's sudden decision, saying that health is not the only reason why the Vice President decide to exit, especially after the first day of Parliament's monsoon session.
Congress asserted that Dhankhar’s resignation stemmed from reasons “far deeper” than the health concerns he mentioned.
