Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had to once again address that one big question — when will he get married? The question this time was asked by some Kashmiri women students who had an interaction with Gandhi in Srinagar last week.
In the freewheeling chat, the discussion veers towards marriage. Asked if he plans to get married, Gandhi said, "I don’t plan it but if it happens…", to which the women told him in a chorus, "Please do invite us.” He replied, ”I will,” with laughter around him.
The issue had come up during a rally in Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency for the first time after his nomination in May this year. Priyanka Gandhi, who was there at the gathering, had then told him to answer the question somebody from the crowd had asked. He asked what the question was. ”Shaadi kab karoge (When will you marry)?” Rahul Gandhi assured it would have to be soon now. ”Ab jaldi karni padegi,” he had said in Hindi.
In his interaction, shared on his YouTube channel on Monday, Rahul Gandhi is seen telling them about the pressure to get married and they in turn question him right back. ”I have outlasted that pressure for 20-30 years,” the 54-year-old leader responded smilingly.
Rahul Gandhi, whose wedding plans or the lack thereof have been the subject of endless speculation, was in Jammu and Kashmir last week.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi on August 26 said running Jammu and Kashmir from Delhi does not make any sense, and reiterated the demand for the restoration of its statehood. "My problem with the PM is that he does not listen to anyone. I have a problem with someone who from the beginning believes that they are right. Even if he sees something that is showing him that he is wrong, he will not accept it. So then that type a person will always create some problem or the other," Gandhi tells the Kashmiri women students. "It comes from insecurity, it does not come from strength. It comes from weakness," he added.
In the video, Gandhi also spoke about the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir and tells the students that it is the first time in Indian history that statehood has been taken away from a state. "We are clear, the way it was done, we did not like. But, now for us the principle is to get the statehood back and that includes representation to people of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. This status of running Kashmir, running Jammu from Delhi does not make any sense," Gandhi said
Polls to the 90-member J&K assembly will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4.
