In a grisly incident, a former serviceman in Hyderabad claimed he killed his wife and disposed of her body parts at different locations, including the Jillellaguda lake, days after a missing complaint was filed by the woman's mother.
The police, however, said on Thursday they are verifying the claims by the 45-year-old ex-serviceman from the Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, who said he dismembered his wife’s body after killing her and cooked the parts in a pressure cooker, according to a report by The Indian Express.
He allegedly murdered his wife, chopped her body, boiled the parts in a pressure cooker and then dumped the remains in the lake and other places.
The man has been identified as Gurumurthy. works as an outsourced security guard at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) facility in Kanchan Bagh.
The crime took place under the Meerpet police station limits and came to light after the victim’s mother filed a missing complaint, after which the accused, Gurumurthy, was arrested. The deceased was identified as Puttavenkata Madhavi, 35, News18 reported.
The man and Madhavi were living in Jillelaguda for the past five years with their two children.
The police launched an investigation into the matter and are collecting additional evidence. Meerpet Inspector Nagaraju said that the husband, now in custody, claimed he disposed of the remains in a lake after boiling them and making them as powder. His claims are being verified, according to a News18 report.
Nagaraju said that the couple had been together for over 10 years and belonged to Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district. Gurumurthy is a retired army personnel who is currently employed as a security guard in Kanchanbagh.
Madhavi’s mother Uppala Subbamma had filed a missing complaint on January 18, stating that the married couple had an argument around 8 am on January 16 over petty issues, according to ANI.
According to her complaint, after being upset about a quarrel, Madhavi left home at around noon without informing anyone and did not return. Their neighbours and relatives looked for her but she was nowhere to be found.
According to the police, the accused told them that he killed his wife on sudden provocation when she demanded to go to her native place in Nandyal.
Further investigation is underway.
