In a disturbing case that echoes the plot of a Bollywood thriller, police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district are investigating the murder of a 35-year-old man whose body was allegedly buried beneath the floor of his own home by his wife and her lover.

The deceased, Vijay Chavan, had reportedly been missing for over two weeks before his brothers uncovered the gruesome truth on Monday morning at his residence in Gadgapada, Nalasopara East, about 70 km from Mumbai.

According to NDTV, when the brothers arrived at the house, they noticed that a selection of the floor tiles appeared freshly laid and different in colour. Their suspicions deepened when a foul smell began to emanate as they removed the tiles, revealing a buried vest and ultimately leading to the discovery of Chavan’s body.

Police now suspect that Chavan was murdered by his 28-year-old wife Komal Chavan, who is missing along with a neighbour, identified as Monu. Officials have been reported to believe the two were romantically involved and allegedly plotted the killing together. Instead of disposing of the body elsewhere, they are said to have concealed it inside the house, laying new tiles over the burial site in an attempt to hide the crime.
