The Centre, the Tripura government and two insurgent groups signed a peace pact in on September 4 to end violence and bring "lasting peace" to the Northeastern state.
The “memorandum of settlement” was signed in New Delhi with the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah and Tripura chief minister Manik Saha.

Describing the peace pact as a matter of joy for all, Shah said, "The struggle that was ongoing for 35 years, you have given up weapons and joined the mainstream and expressed your commitment towards the development of entire Tripura."
The home minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi through peace and dialogue presented vision of capable and developed Northeast before the country. "There was a great distance between the people of Northeast and Delhi. He not only removed this distance through road, rail and air connectivity but also removed the distance between hearts of people," he added.
Saha expressed his gratitude to Shah for being instrumental in creating an atmosphere of peace, prosperity and goodwill in the region.
"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the proactive initiative of home minister Amit Shah, a dozen of peace agreements have been signed in the Northeast in the last 10 years to resolve many of the complex issues out of which for Tripura alone, there are 3 agreements so far," he said.
"It is a matter of great satisfaction that the members of NLFT and ATTF have decided to join the mainstream for participation in the development journey spearheaded by our PM...," he added.
The home minister has been working towards to fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed Northeast, free from extremism, violence and conflict, an official statement on September 3 said.
The government signed 12 agreements to bring peace and prosperity in the Northeast, of which three were related to Tripura. Following the agreements, around 10,000 people had given up arms and joined mainstream, the statement added.
