Four killed in car-truck collision in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam

Four people lost their lives and five others were injured after a sports utility vehicle crashed into a dumper truck late Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials told PTI. The vehicles -- a dumper truck and a Tata Sumo -- collided at around 10.30 pm in the Palar area in Budgam.

According to officials, a total of nine people were rushed to a nearby medical facility in the aftermath of the incident. Doctors declared four of them “brought dead,” while five others continued to receive treatment at different hospitals through the night.

The tragic crash drew strong reactions from top J&K leaders. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced deep sorrow, noting he was “expressed shock and grief over the tragic accident in Budgam, where multiple lives are feared lost.” He also instructed district officials to ensure “every possible assistance” for those affected and called for swift and comprehensive medical attention for the injured. Abdullah further ordered that the cause of the collision “shall be thoroughly investigated.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also extended his condolences. He said he was “extremely pained by the loss of precious lives in a tragic road accident in Budgam,” adding that his “thoughts are with the bereaved family” and that he was “praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
