The national capital of India is gearing up for the swearing-in of Delhi’s new Chief Minister, which is scheduled to take place on February 20, 2025, at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. This follows the BJP’s impressive win in the Delhi Assembly elections, where they secured 48 out of 70 seats, ending the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) decade-long rule.
Event Details
- Date and Time: The swearing-in ceremony is set for 4:30 pm on February 20.
Venue: The ceremony will be held at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, a popular venue for large events. Although Ramlila Maidan has been chosen, other potential locations for the event had included Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and spaces along the Yamuna River.
- Audience: The ceremony is expected to attract a large crowd of 12,000 to 16,000 people, including diplomats, religious leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, various Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, corporate leaders, personalities from the film and sports industries, and saints and sages.
Traffic Arrangements and Restrictions
Given the expected large turnout, Delhi Traffic Police have made several key changes to traffic routes and parking arrangements for the day of the ceremony, from 7 am to 4 pm.
Areas including Subhash Park T-point, Raj Ghat, Delhi Gate, ITO, Ajmeri Gate, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Bhavbhuti Marg, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg will experience traffic diversions.
The roads leading to and from the event area, including Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Aruna Asif Ali Road, and Minto Road, will be restricted, particularly around Kamla Market and Hamdard Chowk.
Traffic Restrictions
· Ranjeet Singh Flyover to Turkman Gate and Ajmeri Gate to Kamla Market will be affected.
· Drivers are advised to avoid these areas and take alternative routes.
Instructions for Commuters
- Use Public Transport: To minimise congestion, passengers are encouraged to rely on public transport options.
- Park in Designated Areas: Vehicles should be parked only in approved parking lots to avoid contributing to traffic disruptions.
- Avoid Roadside Parking: This will help ensure smoother traffic flow in and around the event venue.
- Stay Vigilant: In case of any suspicious activity or objects, commuters should immediately inform the police to ensure safety.
- Paharganj Road: Travelers heading to New Delhi Railway Station should take the Paharganj side road and avoid using Ajmeri Gate side roads.
These arrangements are intended to ensure the ceremony goes off without a hitch while minimising disruptions to daily traffic in the city.
