Delay in court decisions forces public think that judiciary lacks sensitivity, says President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu expressed concerns on September 1 about the delay in court decisions in heinous crimes like rape, stating that it causes the common man to perceive the judicial process as lacking sensitivity. She emphasised the need for a cultural shift in the judiciary, particularly in addressing the prevalent "culture of adjournments."

Speaking at the valedictory session of the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary, President Murmu highlighted the significant challenge posed by the longstanding pendency and backlog of cases in the judicial system. She urged for more frequent organization of initiatives like special Lok Adalat weeks to help clear the backlog of cases.

"All stakeholders have to find a solution by giving priority to this problem," she said.

Murmu lamented that "in some cases, people with resources continue to roam around fearlessly and freely even after committing crimes." Those who suffer from their crimes live in fear as if they have committed some crime, she said.
