Uttar Pradesh's eight districts that lie in the National Capital Region (NCR) account for over 25 percent or one-fourth of the state's active COVID-19 cases and nearly 11 percent of the deaths linked to the disease, according to official data. UP's Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Shamli districts are a part of the NCR, a wider region that also comprises districts from Haryana, Rajasthan and entire Delhi. According to UP's official data updated till yesterday, there were a total of 5,21,988 COVID-19 cases in the state, while the number of active cases stood at 23,357, of which 5,863 (25.10 per cent) were in its NCR districts. AstraZeneca started late-stage trials on November 21 of an experimental long-acting monoclonal antibody combination drug it hopes could be used as a so-called prophylactic to prevent COVID-19 infection in at-risk people for up to 12 months. The Phase III international clinical trial will recruit a total of 5,000 people across countries in Europe and the United States to assess the safety and effectiveness of the antibody cocktail, known as AZD7442.

South Korea's third wave of COVID-19 continued today after medical groups called for stricter social-distancing curbs and the government warned of tougher measures if infections are not quickly contained. New cases topped 300 for the fourth day in a row, after Tuesday saw the highest since August.
