Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: After facing the brutal second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, India is now preparing for the possible third coronavirus wave. So far, the country has recorded over 3,24,24,234 crore confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 4,34,367 deaths. A total of 3,16,36,469 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far. There are 3,53,398 active COVID-19 cases in the country, which comprises 1.09 percent of the total caseload, the data stated. India's recovery rate now stands at 97.57 percent. Globally, more than 21.13 crore people have been infected by the coronavirus and 44.22 lakh have died so far. India has been running the third phase of the vaccination drive in which everyone above 18 years of age will be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 57.61 crore, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | Iran Reports New Record for Daily COVID Deaths

Iran has reported its highest single-day COVID-19 death toll of the pandemic, according to state media.The official IRNA news agency said Sunday that 684 people had died of the disease since Saturday, while more than 36,400 new cases were confirmed over the same 24-hour period.Iran's previous daily record for COVID-19 deaths was recorded Aug. 16. The country reported its highest number of daily cases the next day, with more than 50,000.A five-day lockdown in the country ended on Saturday.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | UK rolls out new antibody test programme for COVID positives

The UK government on Sunday announced the rollout of a new nationwide antibody surveillance programme, which will make free home antibody tests available for up to 8,000 COVID-positive people a day.The UK Health Security Agency will offer these finger-prick tests to help improve the understanding of immunity against COVID-19 from vaccination and infection.Under the scheme, from Tuesday, anyone aged over 18 will be able to opt in to take part when booking a PCR COVID-19 test through NHS Test and Trace system.“Our new national antibody testing will be quick and easy to take part in, and by doing so you’ll be helping strengthen our understanding of COVID-19 as we cautiously return to a more normal life,” said UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid.“I’m proud to see all parts of the UK uniting around this new initiative and working together to arm ourselves with even more valuable insights into how COVID-19 vaccines are protecting people up and down the UK,” he said.The UK Health Security Agency said it will work alongside NHS Test and Trace testing services in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to monitor levels of antibodies in positive cases across the UK.

The Tamil Nadu state government has extended COVID-19 curbs till September 9 with additional relaxations. The existing relaxations were scheduled to end by August 23.Chief Minister M K Stalin chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials on August 21 and decided to reopen educational institutions from September 1 along with theatres from August 23."The members of the public should utilise the relaxations being extended by the government in a responsible manner. I appeal to the people to utilise the relaxations properly as the decisions have been made taking into consideration people’s livelihoods, besides students’ education and future,” Stalin said.

Over 720 children in child care institutions in 11 states and Union Territories have contracted COVID-19 till now and no fatalities have been reported, according to data from the country's apex child rights body.The data, which was shared by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in response to an RTI query from PTI, also stated that 686 children living in child care institutions (CCIs) have been infected with COVID-19 so far this year.Last year, Uttar Pradesh was the only state out of the 11 states and Union Territories (UTs) to report coronavirus cases among children in CCIs. It had reported 35 cases, according to the data.This year, no coronavirus case has been reported yet from such institutions in Uttar Pradesh, it stated.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates | Russia confirms 20,564 new COVID-19 cases over past 24 hours

Russia registered 20,564 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, down from 21,000 the day before, taking the overall tally to 6,747,087, the federal response center said on Sunday."Over the past day, 20,564 COVID-19 cases were confirmed across 85 Russian regions, including 1,555 cases (7.6 per cent) without clinical symptoms," the center said, adding that the rate of increase grew to 0.31 per cent.Moscow has the highest number of new cases with 1,661 daily infections, down from 1,852 the day before. The Russian capital was followed by St. Petersburg with 1,481 new cases, down from 1,665 and the Moscow Region with 1,184 cases, up from 1,119.
