Congress launched a sharp attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government on July 31 after US President Donald Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff and a penalty for importing Russian oil, saying the latter is “piling it on India” despite PM Modi’s “heavy investment” in personal friendship.

He also said that India now has to deal with the challenges arising out of China, the US and Pakistan.

“PM Modi once spoke of the TOP (Tomato, Onion, Potato) challenge in prices. Now India has to contend with the political challenge arising out of CAP (China, America, Pakistan). He invested very heavily in his personal friendship with President Trump, as he had done earlier with President Xi. Both have the full measure of the man now--someone who can be managed easily by playing to his gigantic ego and self-obsession,” Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.

Ramesh listed out the decisions taken by Trump that has negatively affected India in the last few weeks. The Congress leader said Trump has claimed that he stopped the war between India and Pakistan 30 times till now and hosted a lunch for neighbour's army chief Asim Munir at the White House.
