Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead in Mumbai on Thursday evening, February 8, during a Facebook Live by old rival Mauris Noronha. Later, Noronha killed himself. "The entire incident of UBT leader Abhishek Ghosalkar being shot dead and accused killing himself is serious and saddening...No one should politicise this incident. The investigation is underway..." said Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Here are five facts related to Ghosalkar and his death.
- Abhishek Ghosalkar (40) was the son of former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar.
- Ghosalkar, who was a former corporator, was the Director of the Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank. He was married to Tejasvee Darekar since 2013.
- Ghosalkar and Noronha, who was a businessman from Borivali, had recently patched up following a personal dispute.
- In the 4-minute 26-second video of the live video session on Facebook, the two men spoke comfortably and told that they have resolved all their past disputes.
- "It is a good decision to work together for the betterment of the public… we are distributing saris to 300 working and needy women. We will work together and serve the people of Kandarpada. We have made this resolution for this new year, which is a new beginning of our friendship and collaboration,” Ghosalkar had said during the session.
- He got up after the live session and Noronha allegedly fired three bullets at the former.
- According to police, Noronha was facing multiple criminal cases. The police said Noronha had planned the incident and called the victim to his office just to kill him. Earlier, Ghosalkar had filed a police complaint against Noronha over a dispute.
- “Maharashtra had never seen such chaos before. It is shocking and numbing to see the shreds of law and order flying. Is there even a mechanism to protect the common man? Are you afraid of the law? The administration and system have completely collapsed! This is terrible,” Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA and leader Aaditya Thackeray said on X.
