At least five states in the country have already implemented the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission and announced hikes for their employees. The rest are expected to follow suit in due course.
Following is the list of states which have come up with the announcement till now.
Uttarakhand
It was the first state government to accept the recommendations of the commission. The Harish Rawat-led government, in the run-up to assembly elections in the state this March, had ordered the implementation. He also approved a hike of two percent in the dearness allowances.
Uttar Pradesh
Another poll-bound state, Uttar Pradesh was the next in line to approve the recommendations with at least 20 percent hike in salaries.
The approval, given by then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, is estimated to result in a Rs 27,000 crore additional burden on the government.
Jammu & Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir government announced its approval in January this year. The announcement said that they would implement it from April this year. A pay hike of 23.5 percent was announced for its employees.
Haryana
The Haryana government announced the approval of recommendations of Justice AK Mathur-led pay panel in March. The Manohar Lal Khattar-led government also extended the ambit of pay hike to include contractual employees such as Anganwadi workers and data entry operators.
Madhya Pradesh
The Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government was next to announce the approval. Madhya Pradesh announced a pay hike of at least 14 percent for more than six lakh government employees.
Maharashtra
The Devendra Fadnavis government in Maharashtra is the latest to give its approval. The state government has decided to table the legislation to implement the hike on July 24 in the assembly.
Central government
The Modi government approved the recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission for central government employees in June. The government announced a hike of at least 14.27 percent hike in basic pay. The House Rent Allowances were, however, reduced to 24 percent, 16 percent and eight percent of the basic pay, as per the cost of living in different cities. Earlier the rate used to be 30 percent, 20 percent and 10 percent.
Despite the reduction, close to 47 lakh employees would still be getting fatter checks than earlier.
